How often should I get my teeth checked and cleaned?

A standard dental check-up and cleaning is recommended every 6 months. The reason for this is dental disease can progress significantly within 6 months and often signs of disease can be detected and fixed before they become a major issue e.g. toothache or swelling. Cleaning is also important as calculus (“build-up”) can accumulate within a few short weeks and will clog up the natural gaps between teeth especially where saliva is abundant e.g. backs of lower incisors. Some individuals with a tendency to accumulate calculus very quickly or those with a history of gum disease may need cleaning every 3 months.

How much is a standard visit going to cost me?

A standard dental check-up and cleaning will cost approximately $165 for those without health insurance. If x-rays are necessary e.g. for dental decay or gum disease then this will incur an extra cost of approximately $45 per x-ray. For those with health insurance there will be no out of pocket cost with us for your checkup, cleaning and x-ray procedures.

How much will I get back from my health insurance?

Health insurance rebates depend solely on the health fund and the level of extras cover. It should be noted that general and major dental are separately covered and this should be checked with your health insurance before your visit. The dentist will make sure all necessary treatment is listed and printed with accurate item numbers for you to check with your health fund before commencing treatment. Alternatively the rebates will be deducted off the final bill at the end of each visit through our HICAPS system.

How long do I have to wait before I can get in to see the dentist?

We aim to see patients, new or existing, as soon as possible during working hours via appointments. Walk-ins will be seen if the dentist is available but it is not always possible for this to occur. We do appreciate booking an appointment in advance, usually 1-2 weeks, but we do understand dental emergencies cannot wait hence please give us a ring as soon as possible and we will try our best to help you. Alternatively appointments can be made online via our online booking system. Most available appointments will be shown online within a 2 week period.
